Madrid braces for a sudden change in weather with cold, rain and snow

The weather in Madrid takes an unexpected turn after a few days of spring-like respite. Aemet announces the arrival of a cold front that will bring rain, falling temperatures and snow in the Sierra over the weekend. Thursday will be calm, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, even slightly higher than usual. The stability will not last long: from Friday afternoon, a trough will move in from the north-west, increasing cloud cover and bringing the first rainfall, which will spread towards the Community of Madrid. Saturday will be the most unsettled day: light rain across much of the region, heavier in the Sierra, where the snow level will fall to 1,000 metres and could complicate access to mountain passes and routes. Highs will barely exceed 10 ºC after days close to 20 ºC, with grey, damp conditions. Sunday will gradually improve: a cloudy morning with mist, but clear spells will develop during the day. Highs will recover slightly, although lows will remain low, especially in rural and mountain areas.

These changes coincide with a typical weekend for outings, sport and nature: the cold, rain and snow will make it necessary to adapt plans and take extra care on the roads, especially on access routes to the Sierra.
