Madrid surrenders to cocido: the Route begins with a record number of restaurants
The Ruta del Cocido Madrileño returns with 46 participating restaurants, a public vote for the best cocido and a programme that adds workshops and gastronomic experiences.
The Community of Madrid kicks off the 16th Ruta del Cocido Madrileño, an event bringing together 46 restaurants in Madrid, Toledo and Guadalajara. From today until 31 March, lovers of this dish will be able to enjoy complete menus and vote for their favourite recipe.
The competition, which seeks to promote cocido madrileño as an Asset of Cultural Interest, will allow diners to choose the Best Cocido Madrileño. The title, currently held by La Gran Tasca, is up for grabs alongside other awards such as Best Cocido Soup, Best Meat Serving and Best Chickpea Serving.
This year, journalist Goyo González takes on the role of route ambassador. The previous edition attracted 170,000 diners and some 90,000 portions were served. For 2026, the organisation hopes to exceed 99,000 servings.
In addition to tastings and voting, the route includes workshops, talks and gastronomic experiences. The events highlight quality products from the region, such as Aceite de Madrid, meat from the Sierra de Guadarrama and Vinos de Madrid. The initiative reinforces the regional commitment to local gastronomy.
