Madrid turns blue for autism while consolidating 324 support places for adults
The Community of Madrid has lit the Real Casa de Correos in blue for World Autism Day and is maintaining an investment of 9.7 million for 2026, allocated to 324 care places for adults with ASD.
Madrid turns blue for autism: the Real Casa de Correos is illuminated on World Autism Awareness Day The Community of Madrid illuminated the façade of the Real Casa de Correos (Puerta del Sol), the seat of the regional government, in blue today, 2 April 2026, to mark World Autism Awareness Day (UNESCO since 2008). Blue symbolises solidarity with the >450,000 people with ASD in Spain (1% of the population, predominantly young men).
Madrid's commitment: 16 years of care and €11M in 2026 Over 16 years, Madrid served >4,500 people through AMITEA (Hospital Gregorio Marañón: 79,000 medical interventions). For 2026, €11M for inclusion programmes: 324 places for adults with ASD (+68% from 189 in 3 years). Includes physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychosocial support, transport/meals.
Madrid joins the global #LlamémosloPorSuNombre campaign Thousands of buildings worldwide (including in Madrid: Ayuntamiento Alcalá, San Sebastián Reyes) are illuminated blue. The 2026 campaign emphasises ASD variability, individuality and a sense of belonging (against stigma). Federación Autismo Madrid celebrates the visibility.
