Madrid promotes a new quantum research centre in Chamberí
Madrid reinforces its commitment to advanced science. CSIC will launch QuARC-CSIC in the Chamberí neighbourhood, a new centre dedicated to research into quantum technologies that seeks to place the city at the European forefront.
The project will transform the former facilities of the Instituto Cajal into a multidisciplinary space where experts in physics, mathematics, computer science and engineering will work side by side. The idea is clear: to concentrate talent and accelerate the transition of quantum science from the laboratory into real life.
QuARC-CSIC is born with an international vocation. The centre will attract researchers from different countries and strengthen collaboration with European and global teams, at a time when regions such as the United States, China and the European Union are competing to lead the quantum revolution.
Its work will revolve around three major areas: sensing and metrology, quantum communication and computing. All of this will be supported by key technologies that will make it possible to develop solutions applicable in sectors such as security, industry and medicine.
The initiative also relies on CSIC’s existing network, particularly the Plataforma Temática Interdisciplinar en Tecnologías Cuánticas, which connects dozens of research groups throughout the country. The aim is to consolidate an ecosystem capable of generating innovation and transferring knowledge to the business sector.
Madrid is positioning itself as one of Europe’s emerging scientific hubs. The arrival of QuARC-CSIC not only boosts research, but can also attract investment, talent and new technology companies to the city.
