Madrid Sur shopping centre triples in size in Puente de Vallecas
Puente de Vallecas will have a much larger shopping centre this year, with more options for everyday life. Madrid Sur, opposite the Assembly of Madrid, will triple its retail area and add more than 30 new brands in a refurbishment that will be completed in October 2026.
The change does not affect only shops. The extension seeks to turn the centre into a more useful space for the neighbourhood, with more leisure, dining, services and common areas where people can spend time without having to travel to other large shopping centres in the city.
The new retail area will reach 23,676.8 square metres, of which 85% is already leased. The figure shows that the project is already at a very advanced stage and that a large part of the offering will be operational when the refurbishment is complete.
The brands already present include Carrefour, Guaw, MGi, Vodafone, El Herbolario de Sonia, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, DIGI, Orange, Pepco, Kiwoko, Alain Afflelou, Décimas, Inside, McDonald’s, Game, Dreamfit, Kiabi and Action, among others. There are also mobile-phone, pharmacy, jewellery, travel and local service outlets.
The food and leisure section will gain weight with new openings. KFC is under construction and Madrid Sur Bowling and 100 Montaditos will soon join, two additions designed to attract both families and groups of young people and neighbours seeking plans close to home.
The refurbishment also incorporates new common spaces, such as Unión square, a semi-open interior area, and outdoor terraces with views of the city. These are elements intended to ensure the centre operates not only as a place for quick purchases, but also as a meeting point in the neighbourhood.
During June, Madrid Sur also maintains family activities, with free children’s workshops in person and online. On 27 June, for example, there will be a workshop for children aged 3 to 12 to learn to sew a teddy bear, with no prior registration and until capacity is reached.
Getting to the centre will remain easy. By car, the main access routes are the M-40 via the Avenida de la Albufera exit and the M-30 via Méndez Álvaro. By public transport, the Cercanías Asamblea de Madrid-Entrevías station is nearby, along with several bus lines such as the 57, 144 and night bus N11.
The expansion of Madrid Sur comes at a time when many neighbourhoods are seeking more services without always relying on the centre or the large commercial hubs in the north. For Puente de Vallecas, the project may mean more local shopping, more leisure options and a new focus of everyday activity in an area that has been growing and demanding more facilities for years.
