Madrid will have a metro station that combines a museum, a park, and a playground with a pirate ship
A metro is being built in Madrid where you can walk among a pirate ship and fossilised turtles
The Madrid-Río station is under construction in Madrid, on line 11. 53% of the work has already been completed. The station will open in 2027 and will be more than just a transport hub: it will feature a museum, a park, a children's playground with a pirate ship, fountains, and rest areas.
Visitors will be able to see 12 metres of the old Manzanares canal and animal remains, including giant Miocene turtles that lived 17 million years ago.
The project, covering an area of 14,300 m², combines transport, nature, and history. As part of the construction, 163 trees will be transplanted, and the Mayrit tunnel boring machine is excavating six metres of tunnel per hour. The extension of line 11 will improve connections with other areas, and the number of daily passengers is expected to increase by 75,000.
