Madrid buzzes with Art Week 2026: exhibitions, fairs and unique premieres
In March 2026, Madrid will become an international centre of art with exhibitions and fairs at Matadero, CentroCentro and Cibeles, where emerging artists and galleries will present new proposals.
Madrid is preparing for one of the year's most eagerly awaited cultural events: Art Week 2026. From 2 to 8 March, the city becomes a hotbed of creativity, with exhibitions, fairs and activities in landmark spaces such as Matadero Madrid, CentroCentro and the Galería de Cristal del Palacio de Cibeles. Coinciding with the ARCO fair, the calendar fills with proposals for lovers of painting, sculpture, modern art and urban art.
The programme gets off to a strong start at Matadero Madrid. Artist Mónica Mays presents 'Pulgar' in Nave 0, an installation exploring memory and combustion in an industrial setting, open to the public from 26 February to 24 May. Admission is free and it promises to leave no one indifferent.
In Nave 17, from 5 to 8 March, the first Spanish fair dedicated to collectible design is held: FORMA Design Fair Madrid. More than 40 exhibitors and a programme of talks and professional activities under the name '(Per)FORMA' bring together the best of contemporary design. In addition, the Centro de residencias artísticas (CRA) in Nave 16 opens its doors on 5 and 7 March, allowing the public to discover the work of artists such as Andrea Aguilera, Taxio Ardaz and Mar Guerrero.
From 3 to 12 March, Cineteca Madrid becomes a meeting point for film and art. Highlights include the premiere of Albert Serra's latest work, inspired by Antoni Tàpies, and screenings of iconic films such as 'Viva la muerte' and 'Arrebato'. The programme also includes group sessions and premieres curated by Sally Gutiérrez Dewar.
CAN Art Fair Madrid, formerly UVNT Art Fair, celebrates its tenth anniversary in Plaza Matadero from 5 to 8 March. More than 50 galleries are taking part in this edition, the largest to date. New sections such as 'Counterflow', 'CAN Design' and 'Solo/Duo Projects' are being launched, alongside an expanded space for young galleries and a special focus on Latin American art under the concept of 'Nuevos Surrealismos'.
The Galería de Cristal del Palacio de Cibeles hosts the 21st edition of Art Madrid from 4 to 8 March, with 35 national and international galleries. The fair is committed to giving new talent visibility and to experimentation with techniques and technology.
Finally, CentroCentro reinforces its link with collecting by organising exclusive visits to the 'Madrid Colecciona' exhibition, aimed at collectors from around the world.
