Madrid exceeds half a million overnight stays outside hotels in June

Madrid ended June with strong growth in tourism outside hotels. Tourist apartments, campsites, rural accommodation and hostels accounted for 533,954 overnight stays, 15.9% more than in the same month of the previous year.

A total of 222,738 travellers passed through these establishments, an increase of 22.5%. The coincidence of ten Bad Bunny concerts, Pope Leo XIV's visit and the Book Fair filled the calendar and attracted thousands of people over several weeks.

Tourist apartments accounted for 265,965 overnight stays and remained the most used option. Occupancy came close to 52% and the average stay was 2.47 days, a profile closely linked to short breaks and trips organised around concerts or cultural events.

International visitors played a significant role, especially in the city of Madrid, where almost half of overnight stays in apartments corresponded to foreign visitors. The movement was felt in the centre, but also around the Metropolitano, El Retiro and the main transport routes.

Camp sites exceeded 140,000 overnight stays, most of them made by residents of Spain. With around twenty establishments open, the average stay exceeded three days and demand remained steady during weekends and special dates.

Rural tourism received close to 15,000 travellers and recorded more than 26,000 overnight stays. Houses and accommodation in the surrounding region maintained stable occupancy, offering an alternative for those seeking to combine the capital's major events with stays away from the centre.

Hostels also closed an especially active month, with more than 100,000 overnight stays and around 56,000 travellers. Occupancy exceeded 54%, driven by young people, groups and visitors looking for more affordable and well-connected options.

Madrid's growth contrasts with the 2.8% fall recorded across Spain as a whole. June leaves a city full of suitcases, journeys and busier neighbourhoods, demonstrating the extent to which major concerts and events can transform tourism throughout an entire month.
