Madrid and Andalusia reconnect by AVE after the tragic accident
High-speed services between Madrid and Andalusia are restored after 29 days following the Adamuz accident, although some lines remain restricted.
The high-speed connection between Madrid and Andalusia resumed this Tuesday, almost a month after the devastating rail accident in Adamuz that claimed the lives of 46 people. Adif has completed repairs to the damaged infrastructure and, after carrying out safety tests, has authorised AVE trains to run on the main route.
Renfe and Iryo have confirmed the reopening of the Madrid-Seville high-speed line. However, normality has not yet fully returned: travellers bound for Huelva will have to complete part of their journey by road from Córdoba, while the Madrid-Málaga line will not resume its usual operation until at least the beginning of March because of delays in Adif's work.
For the time being, AVE and Alvia services between Madrid and Seville, Cádiz, Granada and Almería are already operating again. The reopening comes after weeks of uncertainty and travel adjustments, marking a key step in the recovery of rail traffic in southern Spain.
