Madrid and Lisbon lead the global free-tour ranking according to the GuruWalk Awards 2026
Madrid and Lisbon have become the leading free-tour destinations in 2026, occupying the top positions in the GuruWalk Awards ranking.
The platform GuruWalk has named the best tours of the year, evaluating guides based on traveller reviews, number of bookings, and consistency during 2025. In the Spanish-speaking category, the Madrid-based project Tourstilla won with a route through the historic centre, while among tours in other languages, the leader was Tours Of My Life de Lisboa.
The list of winners includes food tours in Ho Chi Minh, the LGTBI tour in Valparaíso, and the night route through Kuala Lumpur for solo travellers. Projects in Kyoto, New York, Istanbul, Santiago de Chile, Fez, and Cairo also received awards.
GuruWalk, founded in Valencia in 2017, now operates in more than 800 cities and 120 countries. The free tour format remains the same: participants decide how much to pay the guide after the tour. According to the platform, it is precisely this flexibility and direct contact with the city that make the format increasingly popular.
