Majadahonda adds fall and smoke detectors and GPS to its telecare service for 900 users
Majadahonda is strengthening its municipal telecare service. More digital terminals, record investment and new safety devices. The service reaches almost 900 users and prioritises personalised care. Changes that affect older people’s everyday lives.
Majadahonda Town Council has taken an important step in caring for older people by more than doubling the budget allocated to the municipal telecare service. The service, which now has 850 digital terminals, seeks to improve the safety and support of those who live alone or are in vulnerable situations. Annual investment has risen from 93,000 to 211,000 euros, making it possible to expand coverage and completely renew the devices, leaving analogue technology behind.
During a visit to the Care Centre run by Ilunion Sociosanitario, Mayor Lola Moreno explained that the aim is to offer more personalised care and strengthen protection around the clock. The new terminals can detect risks, changes in routine or periods of inactivity, making it easier to respond quickly to any incident. The Councillor for Social Welfare, Marina Arines, stressed that the service also helps combat unwanted loneliness, thanks to follow-up calls, emotional support and reminders about medication or medical appointments.
The modernisation includes 50 fall and movement detectors, more than 350 smoke, fire and gas sensors, and mobile devices with GPS and an SOS button. In addition, terminals adapted for people with hearing difficulties and a mobile unit that can travel to homes when necessary have been introduced. Currently, almost 900 people, including account holders and cohabitants, benefit from this service, aimed at over-65s in situations of vulnerability or disability, following a social assessment.
The Ilunion Sociosanitario Care Centre, located in Majadahonda, has become a local benchmark in managing telecare services. Its team combines advanced technology and human care to respond to users’ needs. Collaboration with Grupo Social ONCE has made it possible to adapt the service to new social and technological challenges, maintaining the focus on older people’s quality of life and autonomy. Madrid is already starting to move in that direction, backing solutions that connect technology and closeness.
