Maya Hawke joins the new chapter of Juegos del Hambre

Maya Hawke, known for her roles in Stranger Things and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, joins the cast of the new prequel that will explore Panem's past.

The story will be set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen enters the arena, during the 50th edition of the Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. There we will meet a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, who will be selected as the tribute from District 12. In the original saga, the character was played by Woody Harrelson.

Hawke will play Wiress, the eccentric and brilliant winner of the 49th Games, whom we already saw in Catching Fire with Amanda Plummer's face. In this new instalment, her character will have a central role, as follows from the plot of the novel published in 2025.

The film will once again be directed by Francis Lawrence, responsible for four previous titles in the saga, and will feature a cast that includes Jesse Plemons, McKenna Grace and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Its release is scheduled for 20 November 2026. Panem returns… and with it, the struggle to survive.
