Barcelona metro incident disrupts the afternoon for hundreds of users
A fault on the L9 Sud metro line complicated mobility in Barcelona during the evening rush hour. For around 30 minutes, service was interrupted between Mas Blau and El Prat Estació, affecting hundreds of passengers.
The incident, recorded on an automated train, forced services to stop on the central section of Barcelona Metro’s L9 Sud. Meanwhile, the sections between Aeroport T1 and Mas Blau, and between El Prat Estació and Zona Universitària, remained operational, albeit at a lower frequency.
The operator Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona reported the breakdown through its official channels and activated technical teams to resolve the incident as soon as possible.
After half an hour, service was restored across the whole line. However, the recovery was gradual and delays continued for a time, affecting people who relied on the metro to return home or connect with other transport.
The situation once again showed the impact that a single incident can have on a key line. L9 Sud, which connects the airport with the metropolitan area, is one of the main arteries of mobility in Barcelona.
