Madrid slows business creation and sees a surge in dissolutions in June
Business creation lost momentum in the Comunidad de Madrid during June. A total of 2,510 companies were established, 2.6% fewer than in the same month of 2025, while the number of dissolved companies rose to 582.
The growth in closures is one of the month's most notable figures. Of the companies that disappeared, 522 did so voluntarily, another 40 as a result of mergers and 20 for different reasons.
The money allocated to starting new businesses also fell. Companies incorporated in June brought together just over 74.6 million euros in capital, clearly below the amount recorded a year earlier.
The movement was different among existing companies. A total of 755 companies increased their capital during the month, 12.2% more than in June 2025, and mobilised nearly 575 million euros to strengthen their projects.
The fall in new companies does not prevent Madrid from continuing to be the country's main centre of business creation. The 2,510 companies incorporated represent more than a fifth of all those created in Spain during June.
Across the country, 11,153 companies were launched, 1.7% more than a year ago and the highest figure for a June since 2007. At the same time, 1,814 businesses were dissolved, up 14.6% year on year.
The contrast leaves an uneven picture: fewer new companies are being created in Madrid, but many of those already operating continue to strengthen their capital. Developments in the coming months will show whether June's decline reflects a one-off adjustment or anticipates a more prolonged change in the region's business pace.
