Fewer trains and longer waits on the C2, C7 and C8 lines after the Fuencarral depot closure

People who rely on Madrid Cercanías lines C2, C7 and C8 to get around the city will notice a change to their routine in the coming days. The unexpected closure of the Fuencarral depot, following damage caused by wind last week, has forced Renfe to adjust timetables and reduce service frequency at times of greatest demand.
From Alcalá de Henares, trains on these lines will run every 15 minutes at peak times, twice the usual interval. On the section between Guadalajara and Madrid, waits will range from 10 to 15 minutes, when they normally do not exceed 12. During quieter periods, timetables remain almost unchanged, but the Civis service between Guadalajara and Chamartín-Clara Campoamor is suspended until further notice.
Renfe recommends that users check the website or app before leaving home, as the situation may vary as repairs progress. The depot closure directly affects maintenance of the trains assigned to these lines, requiring teams to be reorganised and workers moved to other centres such as Villaverde or Cerro Negro. Meanwhile, medium-distance diesel trains in the 449 series will be serviced in León.
The Fuencarral depot is a key part of Madrid’s Cercanías network. Located in the north of the city, it serves a large part of the rolling stock connecting neighbourhoods and municipalities in the east and the Henares corridor. Its temporary closure not only changes train frequency but also tests the network’s ability to adapt in unforeseen situations. Madrid is already beginning to move in that direction.
