Thousands of Barcelona travel passes expire soon: check your card before travelling
Thousands of public transport users in Barcelona may encounter problems when travelling in the coming weeks. Many travel passes purchased at the 2025 fare are about to expire, which could directly affect daily journeys.
In most cases, tickets purchased up to 14 January 2026 will only be valid until 28 February. From that date, they will stop working, regardless of the number of journeys still remaining.
There is one important exception. Ninety-day passes, such as the T-jove or the T-70/90 for single-parent and large families, may be used until 30 April, provided they were purchased within the relevant fare period.
In these cases, it is also compulsory to carry documentation proving entitlement to use the pass. Without ID or a valid card, users may face penalties during inspections.
The authorities recommend checking the expiry date before travelling. A common mistake is to think that the pass remains active when it has already exceeded its period of validity.
These kinds of changes have a direct impact on routine. An expired pass may mean delays, fines or having to pay for an extra ticket on the spot, something that particularly affects those who rely on public transport every day.
