Madrid tests 280,000 pupils to adjust teaching in schools
The week begins with changes in Madrid’s primary and secondary schools. More than 280,000 pupils take part in a series of tests organised by the Community of Madrid to measure their actual level in essential competences. These are not just ordinary exams: their results will directly influence how teaching is adapted in the coming months.
The assessments are carried out from fourth year of Primary up to fourth year of ESO and apply to public, concerted, and private centres. Over several days, classes are reorganised to make way for these exams, now being held for the third year in a row with the same format.
The tests focus on core subjects. In Primary, they include Lengua Castellana y Literatura, Inglés, Matemáticas, and Ciencias Sociales. In Secondary, Geografía e Historia is added. The aim is to get a clear picture of learning at each stage.
The organisation is handled by the teachers themselves, with support from the Inspección Educativa and the Dirección General de Bilingüismo y Calidad de la Enseñanza. Once marked, the results will allow each centre to identify specific weaknesses and apply reinforcements or changes to planning.
This system aims to go beyond one-off assessment. By repeating the same format, it allows data to be compared between school years and educational strategies to be adjusted more precisely.
The results will directly influence how centres teach in the coming months: more support in key subjects and adjustments according to the level detected. In the coming weeks, schools will start working with the data to define changes for the next term and the following school year.
