Thousands of Madrid families will be able to apply for new nursery-school grants
Madrid families with young children can now apply for grants for the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, aid arriving at a key time for those organising the next school year and seeking a place at a private nursery school. The deadline will remain open until 8 June.
This year, the Community of Madrid is allocating €67.3 million to the call, with the expectation of reaching around 34,000 households. The support is aimed at children born or to be born before 1 January 2027, provided that they are enrolled at or have a place reserved at an authorised private centre and do not occupy a place funded with public money.
The amount will depend on household income. The monthly support will range from €177 to €283, which amounts to between €1,947 and €3,113 a year for each child. For many families, that difference can be decisive when it comes to keeping a place close to home or work, especially in neighbourhoods where public provision does not always cover all demand.
To access the grant, per-capita household income may not exceed €35,913. The points system will give priority to families in which parents work full time, single-parent households in the same situation, and cases in which one parent has a recognised disability.
Other circumstances will also be taken into account, such as large families, disabilities of parents or children, and situations linked to special educational needs. In specific cases, children older than three may be eligible for support if they have Early Intervention accreditation.
One of the new features concerns processing. Families already receiving the grant will be able to extend it if they continue to meet the requirements, and the digital application has been simplified with a single form for all children in the household. The system will also generate a draft with previous data and allow the process to be saved before it is submitted.
These grants have become an important element for many families with children aged 0 to 3. At a stage when schedules, proximity to the centre and monthly costs carry significant weight in household organisation, the financial support can ease some of the pressure and facilitate a work-life balance that, for many households, remains one of the great everyday challenges.
