Thousands enjoy the light and music show at Sagrada Família for Easter Week

The Sagrada Família becomes a cultural epicentre with a light and music show. More than 9,000 people attend the first performance. The event will be repeated on Monday and Tuesday with sessions in Catalan and Spanish. Holy Week begins with unique proposals at the church.

Barcelona begins Holy Week with a proposal that transforms the city’s routine: the Sagrada Família was lit up on Sunday night with a light and music show that attracted 9,500 people, according to the organisers. The Passion façade became a vibrant stage where the passion and death of Jesucrist were narrated, using the texts of Bishop Antoni Vadell and the sculptures of Josep Maria Subirachs as a backdrop.

Families and tourists were surprised by an immersive experience that recreates Jesus’ Calvary through images, sound and the church’s unique architecture. This event marks the start of a series of cultural, liturgical and popular activities that will fill the Sagrada Família throughout the week, inviting the public to experience tradition from a renewed perspective.

After the first performance, held on Palm Sunday at nine in the evening, the show will be repeated on Monday and Tuesday with two sessions a day: the first in Catalan and the second in Spanish. In addition, the basilica hosted the traditional Palm Mass, presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Javier Vilanova, and is preparing the celebrations of the Tríduum Pasqual, which will take place on 2, 3 and 4 April. On Friday, the Stations of the Cross will also take centre stage at the church.

Beyond its imposing architecture, the Sagrada Família has established itself as a living space that connects spirituality with contemporary culture. Every Holy Week, the church reinvents itself with proposals that attract both Barcelona residents and visitors, fusing tradition and modernity. The Passion façade, the work of Josep Maria Subirachs, stands out for its expressive power and becomes the perfect setting for events that seek to move and surprise. Thus, the basilica reaffirms its role as one of Barcelona’s great cultural and religious reference points.
