More than 40 construction projects transform Barcelona this August: these are the most affected areas
Barcelona is taking advantage of August to speed up some of the year's most important construction projects. The City Council is carrying out more than 40 works across different parts of the city, with road closures, diversions, and changes to mobility that will continue over the coming weeks.
The intervention with the greatest impact is concentrated on Avinguda Meridiana, between Felip II and Fabra i Puig. Urbanisation and resurfacing work continues along this stretch, affecting traffic and public transport in particular. Intercity buses are changing their route and setting their terminus at Fabra i Puig, while only through services continue to run along the avenue.
Work is also progressing on other strategic city projects. During August, work continues on the transformation of La Rambla, the covering of the Ronda de Dalt and the construction of the Vila i Vilà sewer collector, in addition to various resurfacing works included in the Pla Endreça to renew almost 100,000 square metres of carriageway.
The council concentrates much of this work in summer because mobility decreases during the holidays and the non-teaching period. Even so, it recommends planning journeys in advance, especially in areas where several interventions coincide or where there are changes to public transport.
In total, Barcelona is simultaneously maintaining more than 200 works of different sizes across the city, although 42 of them form part of the specific summer works plan. Many are already approaching their final phase and will make it possible to complete some of the main urban transformations promoted during this term of office.
Every summer, the city takes advantage of weeks of lower activity to renew infrastructure that would be far more difficult to carry out during the rest of the year. Although the works mean having to live with diversions and temporary inconvenience, they form part of a timetable of interventions aimed at improving mobility, modernising public space and preparing Barcelona for growth in the coming years.
