More than 600 people from Madrid create the ‘Plaza del Círculo’ to debate and decide together
In Madrid, more than 600 citizens have come together around the ‘Plaza del Círculo’, a space where differences are turned into agreements and political debate becomes a community matter.
Since April 2025, the Círculo de Bellas Artes initiative has offered a format for civilised dialogue: disagreements are not an endpoint, but stages on the path to consensus. Citizens, experts and activists meet to debate issues affecting everyday life, from mental health and digital rights to urban infrastructure and climate change.
‘Plaza del Círculo’ operates under principles of respect, pluralism and collective authorship: proposals are built together, without individual leadership or pompous declarations, and the results are made available to those who can implement them. The initiative turns Madrid into a living laboratory of participatory democracy, where dialogue and collective work are valued above personal ambition.
