Snow surprises the Pyrenees and brings forward the opening of the slopes
Catalan resorts are speeding up the start of the season. Baqueira-Beret will open on 29 November and other resorts are joining in. Arctic snow is changing the preparations.
The early arrival of masses of Arctic air and heavy snowfall has completely changed the ski-season calendar in the Pyrenees. The Catalan resorts have found the ideal conditions to bring forward their opening, generating great anticipation among winter-sports enthusiasts.
Baqueira-Beret, one of the most important resorts in the Catalan Pyrenees, has announced that it will open its slopes next 29 November, thanks to the good depth of accumulated snow. To ensure optimal conditions, snow cannons are working nonstop to reinforce the base on the main slopes.
Other resorts in the area, such as those in Cerdanya, Cerler, Formigal and Sierra Nevada, have also confirmed that they will begin receiving skiers this very Saturday. The combination of intense cold, abundant snow and favourable forecasts has made it possible to speed up preparations, something unusual in an increasingly variable climate context.
The race to inaugurate the season has intensified, and everything points to this early start attracting thousands of visitors eager to try out the fresh snow in one of the best starts to a season in recent years.
