Christmas Eve on the rails: how public transport changes in Barcelona
Christmas also affects public transport schedules. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has adjusted metro and bus operations to match the special pace of the holidays, with occasional service reductions and strategic reinforcements on the busiest days.
This Wednesday, 24 December, Christmas Eve, the urban bus network will bring forward its closing time: the last departures from the termini will be at 22:00. The metro, meanwhile, will run until 23:00, following the usual pattern for each Christmas Eve. The service will be extended again over the following two days: on both 25 December and 26 December, Sant Esteve, underground trains will operate from 5:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the early hours.
The festive calendar also includes two key nights. On New Year's Eve, from 31 December to 1 January, the metro will provide continuous service throughout the night, an option intended to make travel easier after the celebrations. On the night of Epiphany, Monday 5 January, hours will be extended until 2:00, while on Tuesday 6 the last trains will run until midnight. The Barcelona Bus Turístic will suspend service on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Beyond the timetables, TMB has prepared a special increase in service. During the holidays, the metro will have up to 7.4% more trains in operation, especially on lines 1, 2 and 3, the most used on days of shopping, leisure and visits to the city centre. The bus network will also increase capacity with more articulated vehicles, adjusting the service to demand each day.
