Madrid offers taxi drivers up to 20,000 euros to replace vehicles with CERO or ECO models until 1 June
Madrid is taking another step towards cleaner mobility. From this Friday, taxi drivers can apply for Cambia 360 grants to renew their vehicles, with subsidies reaching 20,000 euros for the purchase of new taxis with CERO or ECO labels.
The application period will remain open until 1 June and is aimed exclusively at eurotaxis. In these cases, the aid may cover up to 50% of the vehicle’s price. For those choosing second-hand models with the same environmental rating, the subsidy may reach 10,000 euros, maintaining that same limit.
The programme forms part of a wider Ayuntamiento strategy, which allocates 23.3 million euros to Cambia 360 grants, of which 2.85 million are reserved specifically for the taxi sector. The measure seeks to speed up fleet renewal and reduce emissions in a city where transport remains one of the main sources of pollution.
The figures reflect a clear change in recent years. Taxis with the CERO label have gone from barely 20 units seven years ago to more than 1,200 today. ECO vehicles, meanwhile, are already close to 13,800, becoming the foundation of Madrid’s fleet.
This progress responds not only to environmental regulations, but also to a transformation of the service: quieter journeys, lower environmental impact and an image more aligned with the demands of a major European capital. For users, it means moving around the city with increasingly sustainable options; for professionals, it is a key investment for remaining competitive in a sector undergoing major change.
