The Buenavista neighbourhood adds outdoor sports and new green spaces
The Buenavista neighbourhood in Getafe has opened two new free-access sports areas: a skating rink and a pump track circuit. These facilities expand outdoor leisure options for children, young people, and families without the need to travel to other parts of the municipality.
The two facilities were selected through neighbourhood proposals and can now be used. The pump track makes it possible to ride a circuit of turns and gradients by bicycle, scooter or skateboard, while the skating area offers a specific surface for practising more safely.
The work covers around 2,800 square metres and involved an investment of close to 300,000 euros. The site also includes pitches for football, basketball, volleyball and beach volleyball, as well as a climbing area and table tennis tables.
The surrounding area has been connected through new pedestrian paths and access points from the football pitch and nearby streets. Benches have also been installed and the lighting renewed, which will make it possible to use the space for more hours and will ease movement between the different facilities.
The green area is not yet finished. The irrigation network is already in place, but new trees will be planted after the summer to encourage their rooting and prevent high temperatures from damaging the specimens.
Shade will be one of the most eagerly awaited elements, especially in a young neighbourhood where many of the open areas are very exposed to the sun. Until the trees grow, the middle hours of the day will continue to be the least comfortable for doing sport during the hot months.
Buenavista has gained population in recent years and demand for parks, courts and meeting places has also increased. Opening these facilities brings everyday sport closer to homes and offers a free alternative to gyms and indoor centres.
The change will be noticeable in the afternoons and at weekends, with bicycles, skates and games spread around a space that until now had less activity. After the summer, the arrival of more trees will complete an area designed to become one of the neighbourhood’s meeting points.
