Resurfacing on Gran Canal forces three bus lines to be diverted
Resurfacing work on Gran Canal will change mobility in Alcalá de Henares for several days. From this Monday until 14 August, traffic will be affected by diversions and temporary signage, while three urban bus lines will alter their usual routes.
The works will take place on Gran Canal Street, between Ronda de la Pescadería and Ronda del Henares. The intervention will also reach some nearby points on both ring roads, so drivers will need to pay attention to traffic changes.
The L1B, L6 and L7 lines will be the main ones affected. Their buses will use alternative routes for the duration of the works, and some stops may be temporarily relocated or out of service.
Users will find information at the stops to learn about the temporary routes and locate the nearest boarding points. It is advisable to check the changes before leaving, especially for journeys to work, health centres or connections with other transport.
The Local Police recommend driving carefully, reducing speed when approaching the area and respecting temporary signage. Diversions may cause occasional queues, especially at the busiest times.
The action seeks to renew the road surface and improve accessibility on one of the municipality's most used routes. The City Council has concentrated the work in August to take advantage of the usual fall in traffic, although the work will continue to affect residents and urban services.
Gran Canal connects residential areas with shops and other activity points in Alcalá, so any intervention on this section has an immediate effect on the area's routine. Journeys on foot and by car may also require small adjustments until the work is finished.
For a few days, the change will leave buses outside their usual route, reorganised junctions and machinery working between the two ring roads. Traffic will return to its normal layout when the resurfacing scheduled for mid-August is completed.
