Works on Line 6: closure between Moncloa and Legazpi and free bus service until the end of the year
Madrid Metro is moving forward with the modernisation of its busiest line, with a new phase of works that will affect thousands of daily users.
From 6 September until 31 December 2025, the section of Line 6 between Moncloa and Legazpi will be out of service due to automation works. During these months, high-traffic stations such as Cuatro Caminos, Nuevos Ministerios, Avenida de América and Manuel Becerra will remain closed.
To minimise the impact, free special bus lines have been activated: the SE6, which will cover the full route in both directions, and the SE5, focused on strengthening the link between Cuatro Caminos and Moncloa. The extension of EMT line 180, which connects Legazpi with Arganzuela Planetario at no cost to passengers, will also remain in operation.
These works are part of a 450-million-euro investment that will make it possible to renew more than 23 kilometres of track and prepare for the arrival of 48 automatic trains from 2027 onwards. With this transformation, Line 6 will increase its speed by 33%, reduce service intervals to barely two minutes and offer a more accessible and sustainable service for Madrid residents. The refurbishment, which will place Madrid at the forefront of automated metro systems in Europe, aims to respond to the growing mobility demands of an ever-expanding capital.
