Giant waves and heavy rain batter Barcelona in the year's worst storm

Barcelona is today experiencing the peak of the maritime storm. Waves more than four metres high are battering the coast. Wind and rain are making the morning difficult. The weather improves at nightfall, but the alert remains. Discover the detailed forecast.

Barcelona and the entire Catalan coastline face the most critical moment of the maritime storm this Tuesday. Waves exceed four metres in height and the wind has been blowing strongly since early morning, while rain falls heavily in areas such as the Maresme and Vallès Oriental.

The hourly forecast for the city is clear: at 6:00, the wind will take centre stage and an umbrella will be essential. At 9:00, waves over four metres are expected. At midday, the wind will intensify even more. The peak of the storm will arrive at 15:00, with the sea at its roughest. From 18:00 onwards, the rain will gradually ease and some clear spells will appear. By 21:00, a calmer atmosphere is forecast.

During the early hours and until mid-afternoon, the sea will be particularly rough, with average waves over four metres and isolated peaks that could reach six metres. Rain will be abundant in the north of the coast, especially in Alt Maresme and Vallès Oriental, and will also be felt in Garraf and Alt Penedès. In Barcelona, rainfall will be lighter and intermittent.

The northeasterly wind will blow in gusts of more than 60 km/h until midday, complicating the situation on the coast and creating striking scenes on the beaches.

From Wednesday onwards, broad clear spells will open up and the sun will dominate the morning, although more cloud is expected in the afternoon due to the arrival of a weak front. Thursday will be changeable, with some showers in the Montseny area, and Friday is expected to be windy but sunny.
