Outdoor screens to watch the España-Francia match near Barcelona today
Barcelona will experience today's Mundial semi-final between España y Francia in an uneven way: the city will not set up a public giant screen in its streets or squares, but several municipalities in the metropolitan area have prepared outdoor spaces for people to watch the match together.
The match is played this Tuesday, 14 July, at 21:00 and could take Spain to the World Cup final. Anticipation has prompted many nearby councils to organise broadcasts with giant screens, music, bars and a pre-match atmosphere.
In the city of Barcelona, anyone looking for a public outdoor screen will find no confirmed municipal option. The City Council has not so far set up a fan zone for this semi-final, although it has been reported that there could be a screen for the final, whether or not Spain qualifies.
The closest alternatives are in the Besòs area. Santa Coloma de Gramenet has called supporters to Plaça de la Vila from 20:00, while Badalona will set up its screen in Plaça de Josep Tarradellas, in the Gorg neighbourhood, to coincide with kick-off. Sant Adrià de Besòs will also show it in Plaça de la Vila at 21:00.
Baix Llobregat adds several options for those who prefer to avoid central Barcelona. Castelldefels will open the pre-match gathering at 20:00 in Plaça Teresa Claramunt, with music, a DJ and entertainment before the broadcast. El Prat de Llobregat has invited residents to Plaça Catalunya at 20:30.
There will also be screens in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, in Plaça del Vuit de març; in Cornellà, at Parc Esportiu Llobregat; and in Gavà, in Plaça Jaume Balmes. These options are designed to experience the match as a neighbourhood occasion, without relying on packed bars or the sofa at home.
Sabadell is preparing one of the most complete offerings, with a giant screen at the Amfiteatre del Parc de Catalunya from 19:00, a bar service and the possibility of having dinner before the opening whistle. Terrassa and Mataró also join Catalonia’s map of outdoor broadcasts.
The evening leaves a clear image of the World Cup in the Barcelona area: the capital will not have a large public screen, but the excitement moves to metropolitan squares. For many supporters, the plan will be to take the metro, train or car with time to spare, choose a municipality and turn the semi-final into a shared night under the July sky.
