Park Güell is preparing for a transformation that will change visitors' experience. The park will renew its lighting and strengthen security. The works, with a budget of six million, begin this autumn and will last a year and a half.

Those walking through Park Güell will soon notice significant changes in one of Barcelona's most emblematic green lungs. The park, visited daily by thousands of people, is undergoing a complete overhaul of its lighting system, aimed at improving safety and comfort along the usual routes. The City Council has allocated six million euros to the project, which begins in autumn and will run for a year and a half, with works organised in phases to reduce inconvenience to visitors.

The intervention will focus on paths as busy as the Camí de Dalt, Passeig de les Palmeres and the steps that connect them, as well as the steps in the Jardins d'Àustria and the children's play area on Olot Street. The new lighting system, efficient and with low environmental impact, will be integrated into the surroundings to preserve the park's heritage value. The wifi network will also be reinforced and video surveillance updated, improving the sense of security throughout the site.

Among the most notable works is the renewal of the ornamental lighting in the Sala Hipòstila and the Turó de les Tres Creus, as well as improvements to the inside of the hall's rainwater reservoir, one of Gaudí's original cisterns that is being restored to optimise water use. In addition, the staircase connecting Passeig de les Palmeres with Camí de Dalt will be restored, respecting the original stone, and the bar inside the park, accessed from Olot Street, will be completely refurbished.

Beyond its tourist appeal, Park Güell is a place for Barcelona residents to meet and stroll. Its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan seeks to consolidate it as a local urban park, open to everyday use and adapted to the city's current needs. This renovation strengthens its role as a heritage and natural landmark, ensuring that it remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Designed by Antoni Gaudí at the beginning of the twentieth century, Park Güell is much more than a Modernist icon. Its gardens, paths and distinctive structures form part of Barcelona's collective imagination. The park has evolved to meet the city's challenges, combining the conservation of its legacy with improvements that make daily life easier for those who enjoy it.
