Parque Ventas: the green transformation of the M-30 gathers pace in Madrid

The green platform over the M-30 is progressing ahead of schedule. Tree planting will begin in April. Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal will be connected in 2027. Discover how life in these neighbourhoods will change.

Construction of the future Parque Ventas, which will cover the M-30 at the height of the Ventas bridge, is advancing at a surprising pace. The works, which will connect the districts of Ciudad Lineal and Salamanca for pedestrians, have already passed 35% completion and are proceeding a month and a half ahead of the initial schedule.

From April, technicians will combine completion of the structure with the start of planting the first trees. Madrid City Council expects the platform, 197 metres long and with more than 16,000 square metres of green areas, to be ready for inauguration in spring 2027.

The project, with an investment of €78.9 million, includes the installation of 960 trees and almost 49,000 shrubs, as well as lawns, children's play areas, sports facilities, kiosks and rest areas. Eight footbridges will join both sides of the M-30, removing a historic urban divide between Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal.

Last November, the M-30 lane occupied by the works was reopened, limiting closures to night-time hours. At present, all 152 piles and 128 piers that will support the platform are already installed. Of the 94 crossbeams, 34 are already in place, and 667 of the 3,936 planned precast slabs have been installed.

Madrid's mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has highlighted that construction of the platform will be completed in June this year, while urban development and landscaping will begin in parallel from April. The parking spaces removed will be minimal and will not affect residents, according to the City Council.

The intervention is not limited to the landscaped cover, but also includes improvements across an additional 40,300 square metres on both sides of the M-30. In Salamanca, works are already 50% complete, while in Ciudad Lineal they have just begun. Sancho Dávila park and Ramón de Aguinaga street will see their access points and paths renewed, respecting the location of existing trees and paths.

At the northern end of Fuente del Berro, the children's playground and dog area will be remodelled, as will Alejandro González street. In Ciudad Lineal, the refurbishment will focus on the open spaces between homes and the M-30, particularly on Antonio Pirala street, with the aim of recovering disused areas and enhancing new meeting spaces.

The municipal timetable sets January 2026 for concreting the first layer of the cover and April for the start of landscaping. If everything continues as planned, in spring 2027 residents of Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal will be able to enjoy a new green lung over the M-30.
