The Gran Teatre del Liceu is once again betting on young audiences with a new edition of Liceu Under 35. On Monday 16 February, those under 35 will be able to enjoy the opera La Gioconda for just €30, on a night that will include an exclusive masked ball.
La Gioconda, Amilcare Ponchielli's most popular work, returns to the Barcelona stage under the stage direction of Romain Gilbert and with set design by Etienne Puss. The main cast consists of Saioa Hernández, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Michael Fabiano and Martin Muehle.
The special performance on 16 February, which will begin at 19:30, invites attendees to join in the 17th-century Venetian atmosphere by wearing a mask, in the middle of Carnival season. El Liceu encourages young people to experience the opera and the celebration in full.
La Gioconda is an opera in four acts based on a libretto by Arrigo Boito, inspired by the work of Victor Hugo. Premiered in 1876 at La Scala in Milan, it stands out for its immediate success, melodies with Verdian influence and a plot full of surprises.
Tickets for this special session will go on sale on Thursday 15 January at 15:00, exclusively online. This time the price will be 30 euros, slightly higher than at other editions, but the occasion promises an unforgettable night for lovers of opera and Carnival.
