Traffic jams on Madrid exit routes for the May holiday: tailbacks on the M-50, A-1, A-3 and A-5
The May holiday is already being felt on Madrid’s roads. From early morning, the main exit routes have recorded tailbacks that complicate the journeys of those who have decided to bring their trip forward, on a day marked by increased traffic.
The situation is especially complicated on the M-50, near Las Rozas, where an accident has caused up to two kilometres of heavy traffic towards the A-6. Problems are also being reported on the A-1, at points such as San Agustín de Guadalix and around the Circuito del Jarama, where the volume of vehicles is slowing traffic.
Other key access roads are not escaping the increase in traffic either. The A-3 at Rivas, the A-5 at Arroyomolinos and the M-501 at Navas del Rey have traffic queues that require drivers to reduce speed and reconsider routes to avoid prolonged waits.
The atmosphere on the roads and at stations reflects the start of the long weekend: staggered departures, more movement than usual and a city that begins to empty as the morning progresses. For many drivers, the key is to anticipate the situation or seek alternative routes.
On days like this, the road network operates at the limit of its capacity. Every incident amplifies delays and affects thousands of people, reminding us how public holidays shape mobility and make it necessary to adjust timetables, routes and plans from the outset.
