Protección Civil urges delaying road travel in Sant Esteve due to the storm

Civil Protection has issued a warning for 26 December, Sant Esteve day, asking the public to delay road journeys because of the severe storm forecast. Imma Solé, deputy director of the organisation, has stressed the importance of prioritising main roads and avoiding crossing streams because of the risk of heavy rain and accumulations of water.

Emergency services have asked people to exercise the utmost caution, especially in coastal areas. They recommend respecting closures of access to coastal points and staying away from breakwaters, sea walls and promenades while the Inuncat plan remains active. In an emergency, people are reminded to call 112.

Forecasts indicate that, over the two days of rain, between 200 and 250 litres per square metre could accumulate in the north-east of the country. In Barcelona, amounts of between 20 and 25 litres are expected. The storm will be more intense during the morning and will not begin to ease until Saturday.

The entire coastline, especially the northern half, will be affected by the maritime storm, which coincides with the celebrations between Christmas and Sant Esteve. Civil Protection stresses the importance of following the recommendations and staying informed in order to avoid unnecessary risks.
