What water sports events take place in Barcelona?
Every year, Barcelona hosts swimming, water polo, sailing, and surfing competitions at venues such as the Port Olímpic, Barceloneta beach, and the Piscinas Bernat Picornell.
The Catalan capital is a key location for water sports in the Mediterranean. The Bernat Picornell Pools, in Montjuïc, host international swimming and water polo tournaments, such as the Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona and stages of the World Water Polo League. These events bring together leading names in aquatic sport and have stands open to the public.
On the coast, the action moves to Port Olímpic and the urban beaches, where regattas such as the Barcelona ORC Spring Regatta, the Barcelona International Sailing Week and events on the European surfing and paddleboarding circuit take place. In addition, in summer, the waters of Barceloneta become the setting for open-water swims such as the Radikal MarBrava and the Copa Nadal, which is even held on 25 December.
The calendar is completed by events such as the BCN SUP World Fest, which every spring turns the Barcelona coast into a competition course for Europe’s best riders.
