Want to feel happier? This colour may help you, according to a doctor
Have you ever wondered why certain places or clothes lift your mood without knowing why? The answer could lie in the colours around you. And no, it is not mysticism: science supports the idea that the tones we see directly influence our mood.
According to Dr Tania Elliott, colours send signals to the hypothalamus, activating hormones that affect both our emotions and our bodies. “Some tones can even raise blood pressure or speed up metabolism,” she explains. And when it comes to happiness, there is one clear protagonist: yellow.
Historically associated with the sun, flowers and vitality, the colour yellow activates brain areas linked to pleasure and wellbeing. Studies show that happy people tend to choose this colour to describe their emotions, while those who feel sad or anxious lean towards grey.
The recommendation? Surround yourself with yellow and orange: in your clothes, in your decoration, in your drawings or simply by admiring a sunrise. Even a cup of tea in a sunny kitchen can make a difference.
Because sometimes, the secret of joy does not lie in big decisions… but in a touch of colour.
