Run with your dog in Besòs: the charity plan gaining strength in Barcelona
Santa Coloma de Gramenet has a different plan for 17 May. The Can We Run charity race returns to Parc Fluvial del Besòs with more participants than ever and a proposal that combines sport, nature and animal-welfare commitment.
The event, promoted by Prensa Ibérica and El Periódico, has grown by 30% in registrations compared with last year. It invites people to run or walk alongside dogs in a green setting that has become established as one of the key spaces in the metropolitan area.
The race retains two formats: a 6 km event for those seeking a sporting challenge and a 3 km walk designed for families. In both cases, participants can take part with up to two dogs, making the experience an accessible and open plan.
The charitable component makes the difference. Thirty per cent of the proceeds will go to Veu Animal, a local association with years of work in animal protection. This makes every registration a direct contribution to the cause.
Beyond the event, the growth of the race reflects a clear trend: more and more urban plans combine leisure, sport and social values. The active participation of residents and families reinforces that change. Santa Coloma thus consolidates an event that connects city and nature. When spaces such as the Besòs fill with activity, an event is not merely celebrated: a more open, participatory way of living in the surroundings, linked to collective wellbeing, is reinforced.
