Real Madrid win the derby against Atlético and remain in the LaLiga race
Real Madrid won a vibrant derby against Atlético de Madrid after prevailing 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu, in a match that remained tense until the final minute.
The derby began with an Atlético lead thanks to a goal from Ademola Lookman, but Madrid reacted after the break. Vinícius Júnior equalised from the penalty spot and, barely three minutes later, Federico Valverde took advantage of a defensive error to make it 2–1.
Atlético did not give up and managed to equalise with a powerful long-range shot from Nahuel Molina. However, Vinícius appeared again to complete his brace and restore the lead to the Whites at a key moment in the match.
The final stretch added even more drama. Real Madrid had to hold on with one player fewer after Valverde's dismissal, but managed to maintain the result under the visitors' pressure.
The victory allows the Whites to remain in the fight for top spot, while Atlético stays in the upper reaches but loses ground in the title race.
The immediate fixture list adds even more pressure. Real Madrid will play its next major home match on 7 April, on a classic Champions League night against Bayern Munich. Atlético, for its part, will host FC Barcelona on 4 April in LaLiga, in a match that will serve as a rehearsal for their Champions quarter-final meeting.
