Renfe launches a Cercanías flat fare: unlimited travel for 20 euros a month from 1 July

Starting 1 July 2025, travelling on Cercanías trains throughout Spain will have a new fixed price: 20 euros per month. Renfe has announced the launch of a national flat-rate fare that will allow anyone to travel unlimited on all Cercanías networks in the country, regardless of the city of origin or destination.

This change marks the end of the free passes introduced in 2022 as a temporary measure against inflation. From 30 June, that system will be deactivated and the new model of monthly subscriptions linked to the Renfe&Tú card will come into effect.

In addition to the general pass (20 €), Renfe has planned special fares: a youth pass for 10 euros per month (for users aged 15 to 26) and a free children’s pass for those under 15, valid for a year. Discounts will also apply to Media Distancia: 40% for the general public, 50% for young people, and free for children.

The new system will be subsidised at least until 31 December 2025. Meanwhile, regions such as Madrid will maintain some specific support measures, such as free passes for those over 65.

This marks the start of a new era for public transport: more accessible, clearer, and with unlimited travel for a fixed price.
