The Romanian restaurant conquering Eixample: family recipes and authentic flavours at Transilvania
Transilvania is establishing itself in Eixample with traditional Romanian cuisine based on mother-and-grandmother recipes, homemade soups and iconic desserts such as papanasi.
The Transilvania restaurant, located in the heart of the Eixample, has become a reference point for those seeking authentic Romanian cuisine in Barcelona. Run by Crina Rosu and her family, the establishment revives recipes passed down from generation to generation, with particular prominence given to its traditional soups and homemade dishes.
Its menu stands out for dishes such as ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup), ciorbă de văcuță (smoked beef with vegetables) and ciorbă de perișoare (meatballs), all prepared through long hours of cooking and techniques steeped in tradition. The family retains classic methods such as smoking meat, a deeply rooted feature of Romanian cuisine.
Opened in 2012, the venue combines a warm atmosphere with family mementoes, maps and black-and-white photographs that connect visitors with the history of its owners. Specialities such as zacusca, salată de vinete and sarmale also stand out: pickled-cabbage rolls cooked with smoked pork knuckle and served with polenta.
The star dessert, papanasi, completes a deeply traditional experience that fits within the Eixample’s cultural and gastronomic offering, where world cuisines and local proposals coexist.
