Leaving Madrid at Easter Week becomes complicated: traffic jams on the A-3 and A-5
Leaving Madrid this Thursday is becoming slower than usual. Accidents on several key motorways are causing long queues just as Easter Week begins, affecting thousands of drivers starting their holidays.
The A-3, towards Valencia, is experiencing the biggest problems. An accident has caused traffic jams of up to ten kilometres, with very heavy traffic from early in the morning and uneven progress even after an additional lane was opened.
On the A-5, the situation is also complicated. Several accidents in the province of Toledo are causing tailbacks at different points, forcing drivers to slow down and increasing departure times towards the west.
Other roads are not escaping the traffic pressure either. The A-4 has slow-moving traffic towards Andalusia, while the approach to Valencia on the A-3 is already showing signs of congestion.
The start of the holidays sends the volume of journeys soaring and multiplies the impact of any incident. On days like this, an isolated accident can translate into kilometres of traffic jams and route changes on the move.
