Direct Rodalies connection returns on a key stretch for Barcelona
The Rodalies de Catalunya network is taking a step towards normality. The R4 line has restored services between Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Martorell, returning a direct connection to Barcelona for thousands of travellers after almost three months of disruption.
Stations such as Gelida, Lavern-Subirats and Vilafranca del Penedès once again have service without the need for replacement buses, reducing journey times and making daily travel simpler.
The improvement follows the 20 January accident, which affected a large part of the network. Although the service between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Terrassa is now operating normally, those continuing to Manresa still have to change, in some cases combining train and bus.
At the same time, the R1 has also recovered its full route between L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Maçanet-Massanes. Frequencies are increasing on the busiest sections, although restrictions remain in the first and last hours of the day because of maintenance work.
The rest of the network continues to experience disruptions. The R2 south remains subject to restrictions because of works in the Garraf, the R3 is operating partially and the R8 remains interrupted on some sections, forcing many journeys to be reorganised.
For regular users, the change represents a clear improvement, although it is still far from a complete return to normality. Recovery is progressing in phases on a network that is key to daily mobility in the Barcelona area, where any adjustment directly affects thousands of journeys.
