Rosalía features on the new Fontaines D.C. album ahead of their stop in Barcelona

Fontaines D.C. will arrive in Barcelona on 24 October, but before that, they’ll have taken an unexpected turn in their musical universe. Rosalía appears on the Irish band’s fifth album, a collaboration that brings together two names that, until now, seemed to move in quite different circles.

The Catalan artist features on Where Is Gone?, one of the tracks from Dopamine Chamber, the new record set for release on 16 October.

Rosalía steps into Fontaines D.C. territory

This collaboration is notable: it’s the first time Fontaines D.C. have invited an outside artist to be part of one of their albums.

And it doesn’t seem like Rosalía is just lending her voice for a few seconds. Her contribution is woven into an album where the group moves away from the raw guitars of their early work to explore a more melodic sound, with ballads and much more prominent choruses.

The album revolves around a single idea: how the search for pleasure changes when uncertainty and danger are growing all around.

An album recorded between London, Palermo, and a cushion booth

Dopamine Chamber wasn’t born in a single studio. The sessions were split between London, the English countryside, and Palermo.

In the Italian city, Grian Chatten even recorded his vocals in an improvised booth made of mattresses and cushions. A rather homemade solution for an album that will end up playing on big stages.

The album continues the evolution of a band that has been changing its sound from Dogrel to Romance, never staying in the same place for too long.

Barcelona is already sold out

The next big stop comes just days after the release. Fontaines D.C. will play on 24 October at the Sant Jordi Club, in Montjuïc, and tickets for Barcelona are already sold out.

Those who missed out still have another chance not too far away: the band will be in Madrid on 22 October, playing at the Movistar Arena, where tickets are still available.

From The Weeknd y Björk to Fontaines D.C.

For Rosalía, Where Is Gone? adds another international name to a list of collaborations that already includes artists like J Balvin, The Weeknd y Björk. She’s also taken part in projects closer to home, such as her collaboration with the Escolania de Montserrat.

This time, the crossover comes from Irish rock. And even though Rosalía is on the album, there’s still one open question: will her collaboration be heard when Fontaines D.C. take the stage in Barcelona?
