Nine football fields in Sabadell get new awnings to beat the heat
Nine municipal football fields in Sabadell will introduce new shaded areas this summer to reduce sun exposure during training sessions and matches. The installation of awnings aims to improve safety and comfort for players, families, and spectators on the hottest days.

The work will cover the pitches at Can Deu, La Roureda, Arraona-Merinals, La Creu, Ca n’Oriac, Can Puiggener, Torre-romeu, Olímpia and Sant Oleguer. These facilities are spread across different neighbourhoods and regularly used by grassroots clubs, sports schools and residents.
The lack of spaces sheltered from the sun was one of the most frequent complaints among those who spend several hours at these grounds. In the summer months, stands and areas close to the pitch can reach very high temperatures, particularly around the middle of the day.
The new awnings will allow people to wait, rest or watch matches with less direct exposure. The measure benefits spectators, but also players, coaches and club staff, who often spend long periods at the facilities.
The City Council sees this intervention as a necessary adaptation to increasingly hot summers. Maintaining sporting activity requires changes to facilities that, in many cases, were designed without enough covered areas.
Municipal pitches play an important role in everyday life in Sabadell. Throughout the year, they host competitions, training sessions, school tournaments and gatherings that bring together hundreds of families every weekend.
Installing shade does not eliminate the risks associated with heat, so it will still be important to stay hydrated, avoid exertion during the harshest hours and adjust schedules when temperatures are extreme. Even so, it represents a visible improvement for those who use these spaces every day.
The change will be noticeable on the touchline and in the stands, where finding shelter from the sun has not always been easy until now. This summer, nine pitches in Sabadell will offer surroundings somewhat better prepared for people to keep playing without turning every match into a test of endurance.
