Sabadell suffers a new power cut: 2,500 customers affected at midday

Around 2,500 customers in Sabadell were left without electricity this Thursday 3 September due to an incident on the medium-voltage network. The outage began at around 12:45 and supply was fully restored shortly before 14:00.

According to information provided by Endesa, the incident occurred when a 25-kilovolt underground power line became disconnected. The company carried out operations from the network to progressively supply those affected through alternative lines while service was restored.

All affected customers were within the municipal boundaries of Sabadell. For the time being, it has not been publicly specified which neighbourhoods or streets were left without electricity or exactly what caused the cable disconnection, so it is not possible to define the affected area more precisely.

The interruption comes after several electrical incidents recorded in the city this year. In March, a fault on another medium-voltage underground line left part of the Centre without supply for approximately an hour and a half. At the end of April, another outage affected homes and businesses on the Rambla, the Passeig, Via Massagué and part of Creu Alta.

The situation recurred during the summer. On 1 July, businesses and homes in the Centre were without electricity for around an hour because of an incident on a medium-voltage cable, and on the 8th new outages were detected in places such as Creu Alta, Centre, Can Rull, Sol i Padrís and Poblenou.

In the meantime, Endesa has carried out works to strengthen parts of the local network. In August, for example, it connected two Poblenou transformer centres through a new ring configuration that makes it possible to use alternative routes when an incident occurs and thus reduce the time needed to restore supply.

This Thursday’s outage followed precisely that procedure: the company was able to reconfigure supply through other lines and restore electricity in just over an hour. By late afternoon, there were no customers still awaiting restoration of service because of this incident.
