San Sebastián de los Reyes sees out August with bull runs and major free concerts
San Sebastián de los Reyes is already celebrating its big festival week. From this Monday 24 until 31 August, the town brings together eight days of bull runs, free concerts, fireworks, family activities and street celebrations, once again making it one of the major festive focal points of late summer in Madrid.
The bull runs are the backbone of the mornings. From this Tuesday the 25th through to Monday the 31st, each day will have a run at 11:00, with the additional exception of this very Tuesday, when there will also be a night-time bull run at 22:00. In total, the programme includes eight runs during the festivities.
Music takes over when the sun goes down. On Thursday the 27th, Celtas Cortos will celebrate 40 years of their career with a concert at 00:30 in the Anfiteatro Municipal Adolfo Conde, after Metallijam and the fireworks display scheduled for 23:55 in Parque de la Marina.
Friday the 28th will be one of the main days because of the feast of Santísimo Cristo de los Remedios. Cali y El Dandee will perform at 23:00 in the amphitheatre, after a day that combines Mass, a procession, a bull run and bullfighting activity. The concert will be free until capacity is reached.
Saturday the 29th will bring one of the most eagerly anticipated names on the bill. Malú will perform at 23:00 on the same stage, while Plaza de la Constitución will host daytime offerings such as the La Década Prodigiosa concert and, at night, DJ and orchestra sessions. Teatro Auditorio Adolfo Marsillach will also host La tabernera del puerto at 21:00.
Sunday the 30th will keep up the pace with the seventh bull run, a bullfight, popular activities and the traditional Baile de las Higueras. Siloé will provide the night’s music with a free concert at 23:00 in the Anfiteatro Municipal Adolfo Conde, while Plaza de la Constitución will also have its own programme.
Monday the 31st will bring the last bull run and the end of the festivities. Until then, the town centre will continue to operate to a different rhythm: streets barricaded in the morning, peñas filling the squares at midday and stages taking over at night.
For those coming from Madrid, the connection makes it possible to plan the visit without a car. Metro reaches San Sebastián de los Reyes on line 10, while Cercanías and the intercity buses from Plaza de Castilla complete the alternatives. During these days, the real centre of gravity will be between Plaza de la Constitución, the bull-run route and Parque de la Marina.
