Sant Antoni gets a makeover: new square, more green spaces, and streets designed for people
The Sant Antoni neighbourhood is preparing for an urban transformation that will change its landscape and pace of life.
The council has presented an ambitious project that will act on an area of 22,600 m², with an estimated budget of 11.5 million euros, and which seeks to restore prominence to pedestrians, greenery and shared space.
Comte Borrell, Parlament and Aldana streets will be calmed, and the junction of Comte Borrell and Parlament will host a new square designed by Leku Studio. This space will become a haven of calm, with vegetation, play areas and street furniture designed for resting and socialising.
In addition, the single-level platform will be retained, but with an intelligent redistribution of uses: green areas will be strengthened, flows organised and loading and unloading spaces better adapted.
The timetable provides for approval of the project in the third quarter of 2025 and the start of works at the beginning of 2026. Before then, the groundwater network will be extended to guarantee sustainable irrigation for the new green areas.
