Cornellà turns plaça de la Església into the great heart of Sant Jordi with books, roses and shows

Cornellà de Llobregat transforms Plaça de l’Església into a major cultural stage this Sant Jordi. From the morning onwards, books, roses and activities for all ages. The city is backing creativity and school participation. Discover the schedules and leading figures.

This Sant Jordi, Cornellà de Llobregat becomes a meeting point for those looking to experience the festival of books and roses in a special way. From 10 in the morning, Plaça de l’Església is transformed into a vibrant space, where book and rose stalls set the pace for the day. Families, students and the curious find proposals designed for all audiences, with school activities that bring the city centre to life.

The 2026 edition stands out for the involvement of local schools, which decorate the square with roses and dragons inspired by Gaudí’s ‘trencadís’, in tribute to the centenary of the architect’s death. This artistic intervention turns the space into a mosaic of colour and creativity, reinforcing the participatory nature of the celebration.

Until 20:00, the Book and Rose Fair offers signings by authors from Cornellà, including Ernesto Rincon, Laia Baldevey, Anna Grau Gimeno, Amparo Fernández, Belén Soler, Laia G Rivas, Joan Tardá, Elena Losada and Tomeu Pinya. The presence of La Llibretera enlivens the day, guiding attendees through activities and performances.

The afternoon brings together three stage proposals: at 17:00, the company En clave de clown presents a family show; at 18:00, M. Helena Tolosa Costa gives a poetry recital from a woman’s perspective; and at 19:00, Neus P. Cirera blends poetry and electronic music in a singular performance. The programme aims to surprise and attract both young and adult audiences.

The event is organised by the Ayuntamiento de Cornellà, with the support of the Xarxa de Biblioteques de Cornellà, local bookshops and florists. The aim is to consolidate the city as a benchmark for reading and Catalan culture, strengthening collective identity in a shared space.

Plaça de l’Església, the epicentre of social life in Cornellà, has witnessed the city’s main popular celebrations. Its strategic location and ability to host large events make it the ideal place for initiatives such as Sant Jordi. Over the years, this space has evolved to adapt to new forms of civic participation, always retaining its essence as a meeting point and cultural reference.
