A new cultural centre to open in Madrid

In Madrid’s historic centre, in Plaza de España, the restoration of a late-19th-century building, formerly home to the Real Compañía Asturiana de Minas, is about to conclude. The Fundación Mutua Madrileña cultural centre will open here in summer 2026.

Building No. 8, located next to the Senate and the Sabatini Gardens, is a Bien de Interés Cultural and is considered the last example of Alfonso-era architecture in the capital. Its restoration began in 2024.

After its opening, the building will have exhibition rooms, educational spaces and an auditorium with capacity for 210 people. The new centre will form part of the cultural route through historic Madrid, alongside the Palacio Real and the Galería de las Colecciones Reales.
