Sala Phenomena, recognised as the best in Europe, opens its doors again after an extensive renovation. The space has been completely refurbished, with new seats, screens and a state-of-the-art sound system. From this Thursday, cinema lovers can enjoy classics such as The Godfather, Pulp Fiction or Interstellar at 168 Sant Antoni Maria Claret street, in special screenings throughout the weekend.
Jazz takes centre stage with the start of the Mas i Mas festival, celebrating its 23rd edition. More than forty concerts are planned until September, but this weekend the action is concentrated at the emblematic Sala Jamboree. Saxophonist JT4, a former member of Jazz Messenger & Art Blakey, performs in a double session tonight, while on Sunday it will be the turn of Philip Lassitier’s funk and soul.
For those who prefer German flavours, Biergarten returns to Plaza Mayor del Poble Espanyol. More than 20 varieties of beer, frankfurters and Bavarian specialities await visitors, alongside workshops to learn how to pour the perfect beer and stein-lifting competitions. Admission is free with prior booking, and themed menus start at 12.50 euros. Opening hours run from midday until the early hours, and there will be a second opportunity next weekend.
On Sunday, Estació del Nord hosts Gran Flea, one of the city’s largest second-hand markets. More than 120 stalls offer vintage clothing, unique items and pieces by emerging designers, in a lively atmosphere with DJs, food and activities for children. Tickets can be bought online or at the box office. In addition, those seeking a plan outside Barcelona can visit Pleamar Market in Altafulla, beside the beach, on Saturday and Sunday.
